How does The Breather differ from a training mask?

The Breather is an inspiratory and expiratory muscle training device to be used by patients and athletes at rest, not during exercise. It improves respiratory muscle strength by increasing the workload on the respiratory muscles during both components of the breath cycle. Training of your inspiratory and expiratory muscles can be regulated specifically by the two independent dials. Strengthening your respiratory muscles will improve your exercise capacity and delay respiratory muscle fatigue and exercise limitation.

The Training Mask is a device to be worn during exercise. It restricts airflow during inspiration, thereby increasing the workload on the inspiratory muscles, which may lead to the strengthening of this muscle group. It does not train expiratory muscles. Limiting the airflow during exercise reduces the supply of oxygen during training, increasing dyspnea (breathlessness) during training and respiratory muscle fatigue, which are the major factors of exercise limitation. The Training Mask also does not simulate altitude training as it does not change the air pressure or oxygen supply in the air. I hope this helps! We would be happy to schedule a call for you with one of our medical team to further review the benefits of The Breather.
