How does the Breather differ from a CPAP device?
PAP (positive airway pressure) devices mobilize secretions, reduce air trapping or prevent or reverse atelectasis.
PAP applies positive pressure, keeping the airways open to prevent and potentially reverse atelectasis - RMT devices do not do that and therefore are not intended to replace PAP in a critical or emergency care setting.
PAP and CPAP provide minimal inspiratory strength training due to inspiration against resistance - RMT provides high-intensity respiratory muscle training and would, therefore, be a useful adjunct therapy during PAP or continuous PAP therapy.
RMT using the Breather provides inspiratory and expiratory muscle training, making it more efficient at providing pulmonary hygiene than PAP or PEP alone.
